First Time Filming

Charley told issy where to sit and how to act by using the story boards that i first made up so we were able to practice. I help do this too as i was the one filming and could see where she was able to act.

This was the room we were filming in. It was a good setting as the room was really small and darkish. Even though the lights were on inside it looked very ruined because of the stoned wall behind her.

We used a tripod so we were able to keep the camera still while we were filming. We used close ups mostly as the room was small and the tension would be more realistic if the audience were more involved in the film. It also showed all of the tiniest expressions.

When we finished the actors make- up. This is how she looked. We made it so she was beaten up and tired as this shows that something was wrong.

We used the storyboards to help with the filming as we were able to stay focused and organised all of the way through.

This was the wall with all of the stalking photographs we used.

This is the first time we began to film. We did not do much as we were only really practicing our shots and positions but it was a good start and we were able to organise ourselves for the next time we go filming. We had to make issy look as though she was had been beaten up so she went and got ready and i got ready to set up the scene.

Location For Our Filming.

To film to flashbacks at the start of the film we would be needing a very big outdoor space with nobody around. We will need loads of trees and open space where we will be able to move around and change positions. Therefore we will be using Maggie Bottom next to our school which is a big field full of tiny spaces with trees sand long grass.

To film to start of the film we will be needing somewhere that looks run down. There are small interview rooms in the cabot eye with some opf the walls bare and unpainted. We will be using these because it would be the perfect setting for a run down small room that someone would be stored in.

First Storyboarding

This is the first plan of the storyboarding. It will probably change as we develop our ideas further but this is a rough outline as to what will happen. The timing of each screen shot is not yet worked out. Therefore we will fill the timings in when we are sure.

Ideas For My Film

Our first idea would be to start the film using narration, the main character speaking. The camera would zoom into the characters face, and the eyes would open abruptly. The camera would follow the girl as she sat upright, and she would scream, the edit then cutting into a range of flashbacks of how she got to where she is. After each flashback, it would show her again, showing her emotion and confusion. This will hopefully create some enigma codes for the audience. The narration carries on throughout the 2 minutes of filming.

We would have a secondary idea, but as we planned these ages ago, we have set ourselves to do this one. It is just a rough outline on what we want to do, so there will probably be variations on the ideas, as they are just a frame.

My Intensions

Through my analysis i understand the conventions of an thriller film opening to build up suspense and tension. I doesnt need to show anything that should scare the audience just leave questions in there head to what is going to happen. In my groups research, we found that more people like a thriller opening that has a meaing and that should start with something strange which gives you questions. This will make them want to watch the rest of the film to understand what happens. It should not be dragged however, as it may get a bit boring. The three thriller film openings i analysed had these conventions and gave me many questions of what would happen in the film. The first film opening "paranormal activity" had nothing worrying or scary involved. The whole two minutes they were both happy and "loved up". The only thing they say which gives the audience a question is that they will catch whatever paranormal activty that is going on. This leaves questions in the audiences head and makes you wonder what he means by that. The other film opening i analysed "arlington road" has no dialogue inivolved what so ever. But the way the shots and blurriness is used and the suspense of what is wrong with the boy, builds up inside you. I would like to use this in the start of our film as i feel that the why it is laid out and the different blurred shots that are used makes the audiences want to watch more to find out what is happening. Nothing is seen within the few minutes of watching but it obvious something is wrong.

Through my target audience research i found that our most likely audience is between the ages of 15-24. They are all mostly female which means we will have to base our film opening towards young females rather than males. Therefore our film opening will give tension. It will not give much away because we want the audience to ask questions and want to watch the rest of the film. No bloodiness or grossness will be involved, it will just simply gives questions that will need to be answered. However, i plan to change the conventions by not making the film opening drag out for to long because people will not find it as exciting. It will be quick and snappy and once the opening is over it will go straight into the next part of the story. This will make the audience want to be more involved and their minds will be cracking with excitement.
